I used to visit different bookshops to read Paulo Coelho’s books. Then one day I saw a half cover damaged book titled The Famished Road. Since the cover was damaged, the store owner agreed to sell it to me at 50% discount. It happened to be Ben Okri’s book. It was so intriguing I finished reading it in two days. The language of The Famished Road is poetic, the writing style is amazing. Also all the characters are very interestingly portrayed. Although the setting is in Nigeria, the book’s characters and the theme is relatable to our society; it is written in our folktale style. As an author, I discovered a new style of storytelling through this book. I think every reader who enjoys folktales should read this book.
