I do request friends in the US to send me books. This is how I got the book Creative Habit by Twyla Tharp about 10 years ago. Tharp is a world-famous choreographer and dancer. Her profession demands her to be creative and be at the top of her game. Our professions these days – writing, programming, investing, business advising, entrepreneurship all demand us to be creative. Tharp breaks down the creative process into its constituent steps, which are basically consistent habits and rituals. Her point is: “Do not wait for the muse to strike you. That may never come, and you will only waste time. Do your work and make your effort every day as a matter of habit. The daily practice will bring improvements and sharpen your creativity.” The book is easy to read and should be of interest to anyone who needs creativity to shine in their profession.

My key learning was: Don’t let bad days, rainy days, laziness, procrastination, excuses and other such considerations from pursuing excellence in whatever you do. Consistently creative people are actually creatures of boring discipline.
