Alisha believe in pursuing her passion relentlessly and is unafraid of hard work. The beginning of her career saw her struggle to gain a foothold in the market, but today she is happy to share that she is gaining a strong clientele and recognition in the industry.
What is fashion?
I believe that fashion is about elegance, attitude, style and comfort. And this is exhibited in each of my creations.
What does Alisha’s Creation offer to fashion lovers?
We are all about traditional wear with a strong emphasis on hand work. I believe in simplicity so my designs tend to be subtle and minimal. Although I do use vibrant colours.
Your fashion inspiration…
Prabal Gurung has affected me in many ways. My thoughts, ideas and my career are influenced by him. He has achieved success and a celebrity status, but still remains humble, modest and grounded. He is proud of his heritage and makes sure that Nepal is mentioned in all of his interviews which is his way of helping the nation to be recognised globally. I admire that very much.
What is your favourite trend this year?
My favourite trend this year is the use of neon colours of the 80’s.
…And what would you like to see disappear?
Have you had an ‘I made it’ moment…
It is yet to come, but every moment is an accomplishment because without any academic background I have reached this stage.
3 must haves in a woman’s wardrobe…
A little black dress, skinny jeans, black pumps.
What’s hot this winter…
Slightly mismatched black separates broken up with a crisp white blouse gives a cool girl effect, worn with boots.
Fashion tip for the woman of today.
If you’ve got a closet full of navy blue, black, camel or grey, add energy with boldly hued shoes and bags. Not only is a hunter green satchel more lively than black, but it is also surprisingly versatile. Wear a neutral base with shoes and a bag in two different but complementary colours.
Do you believe in age appropriate dressing?
If I am confident about my body and feel okay with what I am wearing, I think anything goes. Basically what you are going to wear is what you should want to wear. I refuse to let age dictate pretty much anything in life.
How important is accessorising?
Women should always choose accessories carefully. They are the Midas touch which will enhance the simplest outfit or ruin the look.
How much importance do you give to comfort while designing?
Comfort is top priority for me. I think tailored clothes can be very comfortable if they are appropriately measured according to body type. The choice of fabrics must make your body and skin feel good. I am still in the process of learning how to make clothes that are classic, stylish and comfortable.
I make tiny cholis with sexy plunging necklines. I tread the path a little offbeat. For example instead of the traditional red for a wedding lehenga, I would use other colours. I also use intricate embroidery, raw-silks and velvets a lot. My colour palette is versatile yet very elemental.
