ARE BEAUTY PAGEANTS A PLATFORM TO THE GLAMOUR INDUSTRY?

I feel like Miss Nepal has always been a platform that’s more than just glamour and beauty. It’s a platform that can be quite powerful when utilised correctly and a number of Miss Nepals have done it. Especially, the current Miss Nepal 2018, Shrinkhala Khatiwada, who has been doing a great job in utilising the platform to tackle different social issues and provide motivation to the youth.

I don’t think it’s necessary that contestants are attracted to only the glamour field. Of course, beauty is important to be part of a pageant and the glamour industry is a direct connect. However, if we look back at our beauty pageant winners, we can see that they are not only involved with the glamour industry but are also across several other sectors and industries.

I wouldn’t say that the glamour industry is the only lucrative one, but it’s definitely one of the most alluring ones. Fame is a strong desire for most people and the glamour industry definitely has that pull. However, if one can look past the shine of glamour, there are several other sectors which are lucrative. I strongly believe that a contestant should be able to use the platform to go after what they are passionate about and not get stuck to a singular industry.
