WOW | Men Speak

Are men always the perpetrators of domestic violence or do they become victims as well?

It has been widely acknowledged that a majority of persons affected by gender-based violence are women and girls as a result of unequal distribution of power in society between women and men.  However gender-based violence against men does exist. For instance, men can become targets of physical or verbal attacks for transgressing predominant concepts of masculinity.  Also, they can become victims of violence in the family, by partners or children.

Also, when we hear the term ‘violence’, we immediately associate it only with physical abuse and forget about emotional and mental abuse. I think men fall victims to emotional abuse more than physical abuse.
