Breathe gently… Let life unfold

Some days can be confusing, life can take unanticipated turns, it can be tough, it can challenge you, rip you, hurt you and leave you standing alone in your pain. And yet, when the wave of hot tears cease their flow, when the physical pain abates, you find that quiet inner calm seeping through your being, you feel strengthened and ready to face the world yet again… a little wiser, a lot stronger.
Life’s like that. With darkness, there is light. With the ugly is the beautiful. With fragility there is strength. With every defeat, there is triumph. With death, there is life. With every end, there is a beginning.

Two monks were on a pilgrimage. One day, they came to a deep river. At the edge of the river, a young woman sat weeping, because she was afraid to cross the river without help. She begged the two monks to help her. The younger monk turned his back. The members of their order were forbidden to touch a woman.

But the older monk picked up the woman without a word and carried her across the river. He put her down on the far side and continued his journey. The younger monk came after him, scolding him and berating him for breaking his vows. He went on this way for a long time.

Finally, at the end of the day the older monk turned to the younger one. “I only carried her across the river. You have been carrying her all day.”
This simple story carries a powerful message. When we hold on to the past, when we are resentful and hurt and angry, we are really only hurting ourselves. When we let go, we live in the present… and ‘now’ is all we really have.

Some days I soar. Some days I fall. All days are good. All days are perfect.

Breathe gently. Let life unfold.
