Can marriage survive betrayal?
Senior First Officer, Yeti Airlines
Being an unmarried person, speaking solely on the basis of observation and not experience, and running the risk of sounding pretentious, I’d like to give my humble opinion – When two people are united in matrimony, they promise each other a lifetime of love, trust, respect and faithfulness. A happy and successful marriage consists of both partners working to keep this promise. Betrayal, on the other hand, is the exact opposite of all that a marriage symbolises and stands for, a staggering blow which can rock the foundation of any relationship. While it may be impossible for some marriages to recover from unfaithfulness and disloyalty, there are many cases where couples have been able to rise above the situation, truly forgive each other and save their marriage. It depends mainly on the circumstances and the disposition of both partners. Every person is different, every marriage is different, and every circumstance in which trust has been betrayed is different. So, for me the answer to this question cannot be generalised with a simple yes or no.
