First edition of iGNITE features Monica Jha

The first edition of the six-episode women talk series iGNITE was launched on June 23 at Shambala Hotel. Ujyalo Foundation, WOW magazine and Marie Stopes International- Nepal have collaborated to create an event that encourages leadership in young women. The series offers a unique experience and insight to find fresh perspective on what makes a woman today, what is important to her, what are her strengths and challenges, and find ways to discover the courage to take new action. Participants walk away with a clearer understanding of self, tools to lead and develop others, concrete visions for their role as a female leader, and confidence in their ability to positively impact their personal and professional space.

The first edition featured Monica Jha, a photographer, writer and activist as the first speaker. Monica Jha is also Central Member with the Terai Madhes Youth Front. She was previously associated with Blue Diamond Society as the Executive Director and with Voices of Women Media as Research Officer.

“Personally, I have realised that the more you give, the more powerful you become. And women are special because they teach how to give,” expressed Monica while speaking about her experiences in front of a young audience of women wanting to be change makers and youth leaders. Monica kept the audience engaged with her life story, her beliefs and ideas on leadership. She made them laugh, engage and learn from her journey.

iGNITE is a monthly talk series conducted to celebrate the stories of women leaders in our community to foster an environment for multi-generational learning to inspire young women to become agents of change.
