Mesmerising Muna

Muna Gauchan may seem like the girl-next-door but as soon as the camera comes on, she metamorphoses into a glamorous diva. This young model has reached success through sheer hard-work, passion and dedication.  A dentistry student, Gauchan is one of the few people who has found balance between the glamour world and student life.

She started modelling at the age of 16 and has since appeared on several magazine covers, fashion shoots and shows.  Her career escalated in 2017 when she became the Face of Classic Diamond Season 4.

Muna has now managed to cross borders, making a bold impression in India as well. She recently did an advertising shoot with Close-Up and has signed up with one of the top international agencies of Mumbai.

Besides modelling Muna Gauchan has also acted in the movies.

WOW talks to the young and sassy Muna Gauchan about her second appearance on the cover, her modelling journey and her upcoming movie.

How does it feel to see yourself on the cover of WOW for the second time?

Undoubtedly it feels great.  It’s exciting to be a part of WOW as it always comes up with fresh and unique concepts that empower women.  Even if I am not on the cover or other editorial material, I still go through it because the magazine itself is very informative.

What does the magazine mean to you?

WOW definitely lives up to its name World of Women. The feature articles and photo shoots definitely empower women and push them to the next level. It’s a great platform for young girls like me. It helps us break free from stereotypes and inspires us to do better every time.

What sparked your interest in modelling?

I was interested in modelling since my childhood but I realised that I was truly passionate about it when I finished my SLC examinations. I took part in a pageant where I learnt how to do the catwalk and pose for photo shoots. Everyone praised me for my walk and told me that I became a completely different person in front of the camera, bolder and confident.  Every time there is a project, I feel very passionate about it. I feel like this career is made for me.

Has your perception of the modelling industry changed over time?

The modelling industry has changed and improved immensely in the last few years. People have realised its importance and they appreciate how models can influence young girls positively. Along with this change in perception, fashion and style preferences have changed. Opportunities for models have increased. Now there is a bigger platform not only in the national but also in the international arena.

What do you consider to be your biggest achievement?

I take every achievement to heart and am thankful for it. However, if I had to point out the turning point in my life, it would be winning the Face of Classic Diamond Season 4 in 2017.

Which supermodel do you look up to?

Aastha Pokharel has been an inspiration for me since school days.  I was always amazed at the way she presented herself in the international arena.  Also, Lisa Haydon and Gigi Hadid are models I am inspired by.

What are some of your recent projects?

Firstly I am extremely overwhelmed to part of one of the top international agencies of Mumbai: TOABH Talent Management.  I recently did a commercial and print ad for Close-Up toothpaste in Mumbai. I also got featured in a new magazine in India and now I am quite busy doing a couple of commercials here in Nepal. Furthermore, I am preparing for my upcoming movie.

How have you evolved as a model?

I started my modelling career when I was 16 years old, so I have definitely evolved a lot. I have learned, experienced and achieved so much more. Many of my dreams have turned into reality. I have done more than nine magazine covers and walked for some of the biggest fashion shows in Nepal like the Nepal Fashion Week.  I feel very fortunate to be where I am today and thankful to everyone who has believed in me.

Describe your perfect day off?

When I am not modelling, I prefer to spend my time reading books, meditating, travelling, and going to the movies or shopping.

What is your beauty routine?

I am not a big-time makeup lover but I am very cautious about my skincare. I always keep myself hydrated. Also, I always apply sunscreen before heading out. At night I make sure to cleanse my face and apply Innisfree aloe vera gel before going to bed.

What do you do to stay in shape?

I am not really an intense fitness person but I do like stretching and yoga. I also meditate and make sure to have a balanced diet. I avoid junk food and alcohol.

What is your go-to outfit in the daytime?

I dress according to the type of event, the weather and my mood. As I prefer wearing comfortable clothes I am usually in my joggers, slippers, shades, summery dresses, jumpsuits, caps or camis. I never forget to carry my favourite handbag.

In the evening…

In the evening to keep myself a little warm, I wear leather jackets, blazers and parallel pants. I usually wear my white sneakers, ankle boots and jeans. I rarely wear dresses. I prefer them only for formal events.

How do you see Nepal’s fashion scene?

I am glad to see how Nepal’s fashion scene is escalating. Now there are many new passionate and talented designers, models, stylists and editors. I can see a lot of positive changes in the coming future.

You are venturing into acting, tell us about it?

I have always been fascinated with the idea of becoming an actor.  After modeling, I was even more intrigued with the film industry. Although I cannot reveal much about my movie now, I am super excited.  I am working on myself and taking part in acting workshops in India through my agency.

We heard that you want to enter Miss Nepal in the coming years…

I have been participating in many different beauty pageants since I was a child as my main intention was to prepare myself for Miss Nepal. I will surely be entering the competition but not yet.  It would be maybe after two years when I feel fully prepared and confident.

Do you have a secret talent?

Whatever talent I have is not a secret anymore. I can dance and paint and everyone is aware of it. I like singing but sadly I am not very good at it. I simply love trying new things. I also play basketball and lawn tennis.

Where do you see yourself five years from now?

I want to see myself as a happy and wholesome person achieving her goals. I am sure I’ll make my parents proud.

You were born in Pokhara, what are the top three must do things on your list?

  • You should not miss out on Sarangkot to watch the sunrise. The view is mesmerising.
  • Boating in the Fewa Lake.
  • I personally like to cycle in the evenings.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

It would be Los Angeles. I want to experience the Hollywood lifestyle and hopefully meet all the celebrities.

Which Instagram accounts should we be following?

  • Gigi Hadid
  • theellenshow

Three outfits every woman should own

  • Black dress
  • Pair of jeans
  • Bodysuits in different colours

A word of advice to upcoming models…

If you are passionate about modelling then be patient with yourself. It takes time to reach the top and nothing comes easy. Do not give up on your dreams. Put in hard work and give your 100% focus. Be yourself and love yourself.

Are you in a relationship?

I am single and very happy!

What do you seek in a man?

I always go for the personality of a man… how he talks, the discipline factor and how comfortable he makes the people around him. I like and appreciate a person who can give all his love and make his partner his priority.  Also, he should be understanding and a true gentleman who respects women.

How do you define love?

Love is a feeling that can take away all the pain and obstacles of your life. The best example of love would be that of a family.
