I am obsessed with becoming a woman comfortable in her own skin – SONI SHRESTHA
Soni Shrestha is a successful model, a mentor at Nepal Art of Modeling and a professional beat cycling trainer. A woman who strongly believes in her independence, Soni has worked extra hard to break through the skin colour barrier accepted widely by the beauty world. She recalls being insecure about her darker skin as a teenager and shares that she was even bullied for it at school by peers. Today, Soni is much more confident and says, “I still get harsh comments occasionally about my skin colour but it doesn’t bother me anymore. I have come to realise being dark or different is not the issue, I am obsessed with becoming a woman comfortable in her own skin”
Well sought after by the fashion industry, Soni Shrestha walks her talk with panache.
Modeling as a career…
Modeling can be a good career if you stick with it, work hard and aren’t afraid to make changes where necessary. But for a majority of women, modeling is more of a hobby or part time work. Only few seem to do well enough to make it their full time career.
What’s your definition of success?
Success is being able to look back with great pride and little or no regrets about missed opportunities.
What are some qualities that best define you?
Independent, optimist, ambitious!
Is being beautiful hard…do you feel women have to live up to certain expectations to look a certain way?
Being beautiful from your heart is never hard. We were made to be the way we are for a reason. And we don’t need to try hard to look a certain way just to impress someone. Every human being is beautiful in their own unique way.
Eat well, sleep well, workout and pamper yourself once in a while.
Three products you can’t do without…
Missha BB cream, Biore Charcoal Cleanser, Cetaphil Moisturizer
Whom do you admire?
I admire my mom the most. She is the rock in our family and someone who inspires me to be the best person I can be.
What’s more important: money or following your heart?
Following my heart! The cost of not following your heart is spending the rest of your life wishing you had.
How do you deal with failure?
I am pretty comfortable taking responsibility for my shortcomings since I live by the maxim that nobody is perfect. My approach is to learn from it and try to avoid similar circumstances in the future.
