WOW | What You Think

Pawana Shrestha
Country Manager, Etihad Airways

I was very inquisitive and also very determined to perform my best at my first job interview back in August 1999 for Gulf Air a reservation and ticketing assistant position. And this really helped me overcome my fear and nervousness. I was quite young and studying in college and wanted to be independent from the beginning. I had this feeling in the back of my head that I had to get this job.

The interviewer was doubtful that I could handle the role but I was confident and able to answer all questions about the airline since I had done my research.

I have always had an interest in interacting and dealing with people right from college. Although I didn’t have any specific training for the role I had applied for, when asked about how I would handle the work, I replied “When there is a will, there is always a way. I will learn and implement”.

The interviewer further asked if I could give extra time and work odd hours. Without thinking even for a second, I said that I could of course do it. I got selected!

I was positive in my approach and body gesture which I believe is equally important in any job interview.
