What is the story behind your business?
When I got back to Nepal after living in the U.S for five years, I realised how difficult it was to shop here. First, we were wasting a lot of time going street to street, town to town looking for a product, stuck in traffic and then having to negotiate. That was when I was certain of venturing into this industry, trying to solve the problem for me and everyone else.
How difficult was it to start, and what kept you going through the challenges?
Extremely difficult. Here, my team and I were not just to scale the business but also to educate the market about eCommerce. It was more about the industry than the company and it holds true even today. For our journey, I give all the credit to my persistent team and the believers in this industry, the early users, customers and businesses that are working with us.
One ‘Aha’ moment in the business…
While trying to scale Sastodeal, we were in an informal gathering with a group of college students when my friend Subal overheard students complain about the expensive price of textbooks. He then shared the idea of starting Sastodeal for books and as a result, there is Sastobook. Immediately on hearing the idea my brain lit up.
