She leaves a trail of glitter
Miss Nepal World 2017,
Nikita Chandak won a countless number of hearts with her beauty and integrity. It is only a matter of days till she hands over the crown to her successor. WOW interviewed the diva to know what she plans to take on next.
What do you see when you look into the mirror?
Sometimes I see a confident person who can achieve anything and everything, but again sometimes I see the fear of failure.
How was your journey as Miss Nepal 2017?
It was a journey of both accomplished and unaccomplished achievements. When I went to the Miss World, I couldn’t achieve the crown. Nevertheless, I came back learning a lot of things; the most important lesson that I learnt was to let go of things that weren’t meant to be.
About the criticism, it didn’t really affect me. In fact, I believe you need criticism to become more humble as a person.
Why did you aim to become Miss Nepal?
It was never a childhood dream. I am a twice dropout and was trying my hands at modelling and acting, but nothing was going right at that point. Then I happened to come participate in Nepal Fashion Week. The pageant was an opportunity that came along the way and I decided to give it a go. It was not a desire, nor a want; I would say it was a need at that point in time because I was struggling for change in life.
As Miss Nepal 2017, what has been your contribution to the society?
One thing is definitely the ‘Beauty with Purpose’; I have been helpful to those in Dailekh. Secondly is my social media account. I keep posting motivational quotes and I have been receiving positive feedback from a lot of youths. I believe in some way or the other I have been able to inspire them. Thirdly it’s the awareness campaigns and social events that I attend from time to time, the most recent being a walkathon for girls education programme in Biratnagar.
If not ‘Let’s Be Period Positive’, what topic would you have chosen for ‘Beauty with Purpose’?
I get very emotional when I see an underprivileged child not enjoying his childhood and working in poor conditions to support his/her family . So, I would’ve definitely taken this as my subject for ‘Beauty with Purpose’.
What qualities do you seek in your successor?
Well, I hope she is able to handle the criticism and appreciation that come along her way. And yes, she needs to be genuine and honest.
What are your plans after you pass on your crown to Miss Nepal 2018?
I have always had the a dream of getting into acting. So, I’ll be trying my hands at films.
What is the essence of being a woman?
When compared to the men, I feel women are more emotional and expressive, and that is the essence of being a woman.
Your message to your fans…
“You are imperfect, permanently and inevitably flawed. And you are beautiful.”
