Soulful Shristi

WOW sat down for an interesting chat with Shristi Shrestha. With no airs and all charm, the actor gave us a glimpse into her world:

Being discovered as a model is a dream for many youngsters, but Shristi Shrestha hadn’t given any thought to pursing a career in glamour until a photographer discovered her at a cafe in London where she was working as a waitress. There has been no turning back since. She has since modelled in many countries including UK, France, Thailand and Spain. She has been part of some of the most prestigious ramp shows such as London Fashion Week and Nepal Fashion Week.

In 2012, she became Miss Nepal World and was the first to reach the quarter-finals of Miss World. She achieved eighth position in ‘Beach Beauty’ and ‘Public Choice’ awards at the pageant.

She has modelled for many music videos including Kabhi Jo Badal Barse, an Indian music video and Sadhai Sadhai by Devika Bandana.

Shristi was always keen on acting. She made her acting debut through the Nepali version of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. She has played the role of a Kumari in her first movie Gajalu, starring opposite to Anmol KC. Her movie Romeo and Muna will be hitting movie theatres on
mid-July.

From a model to a beauty queen and now an actor, how has the transition been?
It has been pretty smooth. I feel everything is happening at the right time.

How far do you think you have come in your career and where do you want to reach?
I haven’t given much thought to the future. I am content with the growth that I’ve seen in myself; firstly as a human being and then as an artist.

What do you love most about acting?
Everything!

What was the feedback to your film Gajalu?
It’s been well received and acknowledged by the audience, family and friends.

What can the audience expect from you from your movie Romeo and Muna?
The characters are very different. It’s a mix of a lot of elements.

What was it like to work with Vinay Shrestha?
He’s simply amazing! He is very positive and a chilled out person.

What other projects do you have in the pipeline?
Baadha mayale by Shabir Shrestha and Laure by Nigam Shrestha.

What kinds of roles do you want to do in the future?
I am open to trying out any kind of role. I would love to experiment with something new.

What embarrasses you the most?
I get into a lot of these moments. At times I am extremely clumsy.

Who do you look up to the most?
My Guru, Prashant Sir. I love how he is always in ‘Ekatva

What would be your perfect day?
Wake up in a tent amidst nature. It could be anything…mountains, ocean or the forest and just keep on exploring through the day. Then have a restful sleep under the stars.

What’s your favourite thing to own?
My playlist.

The last person who made you cry?
Tau. It’s a Netflix movie and the character Tau made me shed a tear or two.

If money was no object, what would you do?
I would start an elderly home.

What do you do when no one else is around?
Sleep.

Where do you want to travel the most?
Peru.

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Thakali Khana set.

What book has impacted you the most?
Inner Engineering by Sadhguru

If you were going to get some ink, what would you choose?
Despite having many choices, I wouldn’t ever get myself inked.

Do you want to have kids one day?
Yes definitely, I am thinking three.

If you were President, what’s the first thing you would work to change in this country?
I would advocate for free education.

What’s your go-to dish when you have to make dinner?
Daal bhaat.

What’s the worst you’ve ever been physically hurt?
Bike accident.

If you had to live in another time period, what would you choose?
None. I like this time period called the ‘Present’.

What foreign language would you want to master?
Spanish. It sounds so soulful and expressive.

Your all-time favourite dessert…
Cheesecake!

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Nothing. I’m grateful for my existence.

Your favourite way to exercise…
Meditation or yoga.

Do you believe in soul mates?
Yes, I really think soul mates exist.

Your most hated chore?
Laundry, it’s tough!

What keeps you up at night?
Movies.

If you were an animal, what would you be?
Butterfly or an elephant.
