Association of St. Mary’s Alumnae Nepal (ASMAN) has been working for the past 27 years as a non-profit committed to supporting under privileged children and women across Nepal. The association brings together former students of St. Mary’s High School, the most prestigious girls’ school in the country. ASMAN’s work and commitment encompasses support in the areas of health, education, environment, skill development, cultural awareness and personality development. Its mail goal is to live up to the school ideal – for knowledge, virtue and for the betterment of society through philanthropy. In this edition of Coffee Break, WOW spoke with six founder members of ASMAN about what it means to be a Marian and the key areas that ASMAN in currently engaged with. Excerpts:

What are the traits of a Marian?
Polite, respectful and having a sense of community would be the three things I think of first.
How does the education here distinguish you from the rest?
The time and dedication our teachers spent on each student allowed us to become the well-rounded adults that we are. It was/is the best.
Some of the key areas ASMAN is involved in…
Our focus areas definitely are health and education. Apart from charity work ASMAN holds its fund raising get-together programs for Asmanities, through melas, premiere movie shows, dinner and dance etc. ASMAN conducts welcome and farewell parties for our young Marians every year. In the near future we are partnering with GAA and holding a ‘Gala Reunion Fund Raising Dinner with the theme “Break The Wall… for a purpose”. The brunt of the joke has always been ‘THIS’ wall separating the St Mary’s and St Xavier’s compound. Now we are finally breaking it to have fun and raise funds for our joint charitable ventures.
What does giving back to society mean to you?
Since we have been so blessed, it is our duty to share our knowledge with underprivileged communities in any way or form.
Best thing about being part of ASMAN…
To be reconnecting with Marians of all ages and coming together to make an impact on the many lives.
