What does your work mean to you?

My work is my life, my passion, what I want to do. It provides me satisfaction when I accomplish my work.

What did you learn from 2017?

I learnt hard work and determination can make you accomplish anything. As a young person, many things seem really ambitious until you actually create a determined effort to do it. The year was full of learning,

Indeed most of my work started from this year. I got a media post in Blue Diamond Society where I could contribute to LGBTI rights; a facebook group turned into a group of people working on offline platforms where we organised several events like Newa Movement and #SaveNepaValley.

What are your areas of focus going to be for the New Year?

The same issues of my concern but probably with more experience and time, I may end up adding new areas into my work. LGBTI movement, feminism, Newa activism, indigenous and ethnic issues, language and linguistics, #SaveNepaValley initiation, minority rights, heritage issues and Nepal Bhasa are going to remain at at the core of my work.

How do you define success?

I am not a very philosophical person. Very simply, when you achieve or accomplish a goal, it is success. But again, I don’t believe in pre-defined narrative of success. I think success is very individual.

Who do you think is a woman to watch from Nepal …. Or what are the qualities that inspire you in a woman?

I grew up to be what I am today by observing multi-dimensional people. I have never had any single individual to inspire me, and I don’t think I would ever have this. A lot of people have created a feeling of inspiration through their work. I admire them. But then I think every woman who works hard to achieve success in her life is an inspiration.

What is the best thing about being YOU?

The best thing about being me is that I don’t lose hope. I am my own inspiration of what I was five years back.

If you could choose one thing that you can change in Nepal, what would it be?

Pretty difficult since I work on multiple issues. But if I had to choose one, I would like to change the current scenario of LGBTI people. I would like to change the way law, order, society and people look at us, treats us and behave with us. I want to change, the hetero-normative, cis-normative, transphobic, homophobic narratives of our society where LGBTI individuals can also be free and equal and life a life of dignity.

Three qualities in a WOW woman…

Dedicated, hardworking and determined.
